Hollow Highway, Written And Performed By David Hubbard
David Hubbard sings his original song “Hollow Highway”…
Hollow Highway
©David Hubbard 9/28/05
Sunlight dripping,
cherries
Coffee sipping,
dairies
Sarah quipping
Ferries
on the levees
Wary,
scary spiders want an
airy shipping parcel
packaged into anything
Seasons creeping,
fodder
Sarah sipping
water
Little fire-
starter
Evenings with your
daughter
Crashing on the levees,
dashing in to carry
feathers in with everything
Too late; you fall
Thruways that call
out through the wall,
soundproof and all
Daring and tall,
you found it all
out on the cold highway
Staring at sun
under the one
daring the un-
caring to come
Presents for some
Sharing for none
Oh, the hollow highway!
Chalice slipping,
ice and
cherries dripping
Nice – and
Sarah’s quipping
twice. A
letter with ad-
vice a
better living, baby,
might allow an even
broader view of everything
Settle into
winter
Settle on a
vintner
Sarah drops a
hint: her
daughter has a
splinter
Drop of blood upon extraction
makes the action
hotter than a hornet’s sting
Out on the grounds
teaming with hounds
Making the rounds,
listening for sounds
Cities and towns
beaten and down,
reaching for anything
Caring and true
Sanguine or blue
Voice of the few,
spouting the new
doctrine of who-
ever was clued
into anything
Playing with a
kitten,
Sarah blushes,
smitten
Loving letters
written
Sarah rushes,
bitten
Little kitty didn’t
know the pretty little
circle was a wedding ring
Though she doesn’t
wear a
tutu or ti-
ara,
someone wants to
share a
monthly lease with
Sarah
Baby, lets compare a
condo in Sahara
to the hot Nevada thing
I bought your line
Your love was fine,
but never mine
Sipping my wine,
I was inclined
to fall behind
Timing was everything
Out in the sky,
quivering and gy-
rating, a high
rating will buy
speed-dater’s eye
She’ll never try
waiting for anything
Try waiting for anything
