Runners, David Hubbard

We might raise some eyes
Before we make the door
And if I can find
What we're running for
We'll be bigger than the whole place
Runners in the big race

You heard tell I died
That rumor hit me hard
I'd never even tried
Just wrecked that old car
And the paint came off for sheer speed
That's the kind of rush I don't need
Runners in the big race

I can see you dancing near that wall
So pretty how your dress waves and your hair falls
At dawn those flowers dance and sway
You never turn away

And the money must
Have made a hundred dents
Just a muddled trust
Of plans we never spent
But now we'll take the whole place
Be runners in the big race

I remember dancing near that wall
How nice to watch you hair sway and your dress fall
My eyes were opened on that day
You turned to me to say

We might raise some eyes
Before we make the door
But if you can find
What we're running for
We'll be bigger than the whole place

Runners in the big race
